Top tips for a stress free move

Moving house is a challenge, especially for first time buyers and those looking to relocate to a completely new area. Here at Seymours, we pride ourselves on going the extra mile to make your move as stress-free as possible.

We’ve compiled a list of the most important things to remember when moving house. So, whether you’re a first time buyer, a seasoned mover, or someone making their way up the property ladder - take a look below at some of our top tips:

Start early and de-clutter

Starting to pack up early will make the whole moving process considerably less stressful – it will also give you the opportunity to de-clutter and only move to the new house the things you intend on keeping.

Who to tell

Making sure the utility companies and other services you use have your new address is vital - it’s so easy to overlook an investment account or insurance policy only to find they have no means over of getting hold of you. We recommend taking the time to list all your bank accounts, insurance policies and services, such as internet and TV; make a checklist to ensure nothing gets missed.

When finding a reputable removal service it’s best to get quotes from three or more different agents. It’s not always the case that the cheapest is the best choice – ask for a breakdown of each quote to check what’s included, what cover your contents gets, and whether there are any extra hidden charges.

Leave an instruction manual

A fact book containing key information is an important leave-behind – this will cut down on receiving the ‘how-do-I?’ phone calls in the weeks after your move. Things like the location of stopcocks; gas, water and electricity meters; recycling days and even some emergency contact details for plumbers or electricians you have used in the past. The more knowledge you can share from the time you spent in your home the more the new owners of your old home will enjoy it.

Moving house can be a stressful experience, however if you maintain a proactive and positive attitude, we know you will enjoy the process. Here at Seymours we are dedicated to providing a professional and comprehensive service to ensure your move goes as smoothly as possible.
