Tips on how to take the stress out of moving house

Moving home is one of life’s more stressful experiences. All the preparation that is required can seem daunting, and it’s all too easy to get bogged down under the last-minute rush. Here we have put together some tips to make moving house that little bit easier. 


1. Organisation is key 

Staying organised will help you feel more relaxed and in control. Start by making a list of all the tasks you need to do and divide them into week-by-week chunks. Focus on packing one room at a time and decide how you will organise your belongings into labelled boxes; this will give you an idea of how many trips you will need to make in a removal van and how all the boxes will fit inside. 


2. Give Yourself Time

Be sure to plan your move ahead of time and try and allow yourself at least eight to twelve weeks to pack up your house. Start by clearing out all of the clutter to ensure you do not waste time packing things that you are just going to throw away after the move. Packing slowly and methodologically will combat any moving anxiety.


3. Reach Out

Moving house is a huge task, so don’t feel pressured to take on the entire process by yourself. Reach out to your friends and family for some help as this will help take the pressure off. Most people will be more than willing to lend a hand in exchange for a few slices of pizza and, if you’re moving far away, this allows you to spend some time together before you go.


4. Contingency Planning 

Although you can’t have a backup plan for every possible setback, make sure you have some ideas on how to overcome the key challenges that might arise. You’ll feel better for having a list of backup movers and removal agencies should you need it. 

5. Take Care Of Yourself 

It’s easy to get so wrapped up in your move that you end up neglecting your own needs and health. It’s essential to make sure you get plenty of sleep, eat healthily and allow yourself enough time to rest in between tasks; otherwise, you could end up becoming unwell and sabotage all the progress you’ve made.
