Many people may say that living by the sea will make you happier but, it seems, landlocked Surrey is where you should be heading to find contentment.
Four of Surrey’s boroughs have been listed in a recent list of 10 of the happiest places to live in the country: Waverley, Surrey Heath, Elmbridge and Epsom & Ewell.
The Royal Mail UK Happiness Index considers eight measures that are relevant to one’s happiness including life expectancy, crime rates, carbon emissions, and personal wellbeing.
Winchester in south-east England claimed the top spot on the index as a result of the local authority’s high earnings, a high reported sense of well-being from residents, and low levels of deprivation.
However, Surrey was the only county with more than one district listed within the top 10 – the four boroughs listed cover over a third of the county. Waverley was named the sixth happiest place to live in England, while Surrey Heath, Elmbridge and Epsom & Ewell came in at eighth, ninth and tenth respectively.
