With the festive season over Seymours Independent Estate Agents has announced that it will be helping the Surrey community to get fit by sponsoring the inaugural Surrey Half Marathon, which takes place on Sunday 9 March 2014.

The Surrey Half Marathon is the first major half marathon to take part in the county with full road closures in place along the out-and-back route, which starts and ends in Stoke Park after runners reach Victoria Way in Woking.

The organisers expect to see 7,000 Surrey residents run the 13.1 miles and many more watching the race and supporting runners from the roadside.

Toby Jenkins, Race Director for the Surrey Half Marathon, comments: “The Surrey Half Marathon is a huge coup for Surrey and we have no doubt that it will be a huge success for many years to come. However despite all the organisation and effort that the race team has put in to making the event happen we couldn’t do it without our sponsors. We’d like to thank Seymours for their support and look forward to seeing Richard, James and the team cross the finishing line in March.”

Richard Stovold, director at Seymours in Burpham, adds: “It’s great to see that Surrey is now well and truly on the athletics map and we’d like to congratulate the team at SurreyHalf for making their vision of a high profile county-wide race a reality. With Christmas out of the way there’s no better time to start training than in January and we wish the Surrey community the best of luck in getting fit for the big day.”

The standard entry fee for the event is £33 until 2 February when it increases to £40. Children aged between 6 and 12 are also welcome to take part in a kids race made up of an 800m route covering two laps of the athletics stadium’s oval running track.
